Department of Clinical Immunology and Allergology
The Department of Clinical immunology and Allergology of YSMU was founded in 1990 by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Spartak S. Gambarov who was a head of the Department until his death in 2019. From 2019 the acting head of the Department is Ph.D., associate Professor Armine V. Hakobyan. Teaching is conducted in Armenian, Russian and English for the students of all YSMU faculties in the form of lectures and practical classes the latter being organized in the as cyclic classes. Various didactic materials are used for increasing the visualization of the teaching process. During education process widely used patient visit with demonstration of cases. Postgraduate education consist of different parts. Residency (duration is 2 year) and aspirantura (PhD- 3 years) as well as doctor’s training courses (2 months). Research project comprises the investigation of: immunogenesis regulatory mechanisms, ions transporting system of human lymphocytes, neuroendocrine and immune system’s interaction in normal and different pathological conditions, the role of anti-inflammatory response in the development and course of diseases with systemic inflammatory response syndrome. In addition, the Department conducted research on the prevalence of bronchial asthma among children and food allergy among students of universities of Yerevan and related other atopic diseases using international standard methodologies. 3 Doctor’s degree and about 20 candidate’s degree works were done on the base of the department. The Department collaborates closely with the medical University of Vienna and the International Network of Universities for Molecular Allergology & Immunology INUNIMAI, the Institute of immunophysiology of the Russian Federation, the Institute of immunology of the Russian Federation.
